An Update from Your Wollaton West Councillors
The Industrial Museum at Wollaton Park
Your Conservative Councillors in Wollaton have been fighting to keep the Industrial Museum at Wollaton Park open. Councillor Morley presented two petitions at Council meetings on behalf of local residents and the Arkwright Society to stop the closure. Councillor Dick Benson has also been investigating ways to use Area Committee funds to save the museum and all three Wollaton West Councillors have allocated funding to keep the museum open pending a review of its viability. Councillor Benson said "I was shocked when I was told that the Industrial Museum was to close as part of Labour's brutal cuts in this year's budget. The Museum is vitally important in keeping our industrial heritage alive."
Dormer Windows
Councillor Georgina Culley presented a petition to Council on behalf of local residents in the Wollaton Park Estate against substantial dormer window extensions to properties that are causing other residents concern. Such extensions are 'permitted development' and do not require planning approval. Councillor Culley asked that the Council invesitgate ways of preventing such inappropriate developments, saying "I was appalled that a development such that shown in the petition could be built without planning permission. Such substantial developments can have a detrimental impact on neighbouring properties and there should be some form of regulation."
Listening to You, Working with You
Conservative Councillors have been meeting with the community on a number of 'patch walks' in Wollaton along with local residents, council officers and the local police to identify priorities and concerns. The state of pavements in the area has been the major issue and Conservative Councillors have identified some of the worst pavements for repair but in view of the small amount of funding available, the state of many pavements will continue to be an issue. Wollaton West Councillors will continue to press for more funding.
